Seven students from the Technical Education Center participated in the
Career & Technical Instruction State Leadership Conference at
Jekyll Island April 30-May 2, 2009. The Leadership Conference provides
an opportunity for students to compete statewide with other CTI
students in Georgia. The conference also provides opportunity for
cultural growth and development. It is designed to improve student’s
confidence level and sense of worth.
Activities
provided at the convention include leadership skills, and competitive
events. Students were chosen by CTI Coordinators based on their success
in their technical classes, behavior and attendance. CTI Coordinators
for Carroll County Schools are Loretta Spear and Debra Powell.
Five
of the students placed in the statewide competition. Those students
were, Alician Stegall, 1st Place in Early Childhood Education, Justin
Boyd, 1st Place in Automotive Technology, Victor Rader and Derek
Thomas, 1st Place in Team Career Skills and Lativus McKey 3rd Place in
Construction Technology. Other participants were Shaquita Dix and Angel
Wheeling.

Instructor, Mrs. Jonni Failinger, Early Childhood Education Teacher and
Mr. Tom Ballenger, HVAC Instructor supervised the winning projects.
